Monday Book Giveaway (March 8, 2010)

by

First our winner, and if I’m not mistaken, it’s her first win: Mystica! Congrats! You win copies of both of Diana Rowland’s great paranormal novels: The Blood of the Demon and The Mark of the Demon. Please send your shipping information to katrina (at) stonoff (dot) com, and I’ll put your books in the mail.

For next week … I can’t decide. Tell me what kinds of novels you like (or would like to try), and I’ll hand-pick a book just for you (if you win).

To enter, comment below with a description of what you like and come back next week to see if I’ve drawn your name from one of my hats. Contest open to anyone on the planet who has access to reliable mail service (but one entry per IP address, please — multiple entries will not be put in the hat).

Now, today’s hat (Fascinator #10):

Obviously, I didn’t draw a winner from this one; Mystica was chosen at random.

I bought this one at the downtown Portland Nordstrom store. They had a fabulous selection of fascinators, and it was all I could do to limit myself to one (or five).

I wore it Saturday night to the opera — and I’m dying to tell you about it! But it’s too long to put in a Monday Book Giveaway. I’ll post a separate entry tomorrow (with a better picture of me, though not as good of the fascinator).

So I really want an easy read with a mix of drama and romance and humor. Like a chickflick only in a book….. :-)

Have a nice day! Haven’t seen you in a while. Maybe we need to do Barryfields again soon!

  3. Cindi Says:

I have never heard of this style of hat before. The look is nice and I
learned something new about accessories. The kind of book I enjoy
reading is historical romance and families. It can be early American
history or foreign history. Many thanks, Cindi

  7. Brodie Says:

Oooh I hope you had a wonderful time at the Opera! That fascinator alone would have made the event enjoyable enough though =)

I prefer to read YA (young adult) novels, in particular any paranormal, fantasy, sci-fi or dystopian YA novel. I eat them up for breakfast! Or dessert, since I read mostly at night…

Thanks! Have a brilliant week =)

  8. Rebecca S. Cox Says:

I am still reading books by foreign authors. Seem I can’t get enough of them! I loved your pick of The Bastard of Istanbul and I have passed it on to so many friends that I am sticking with this genre for now.

  9. Esther Says:

Oh The Opera, I am envious.

I read across genre but I have decided that 2010 is the year I will try some steampunk.

    thanks for your fun blog

  10. pearl Says:

Thanks for this lovely giveaway. I enjoy family sagas which are lengthy, deep and British.

  11. wordlily Says:

I love literary mysteries (not women’s fic, though). Set in China would be good, too. :p

  12. stealthpirate Says:

I love novels with clever writing. Like Connie Willis, or Diana Gabaldon. Also, non-fiction with clever writing. I am into clever writing.

  13. Janel Says:

Another great fascinator. It looks very appropriate for the opera. Oh la la!

    Enjoy your new hat!

  20. Amy Says:

OH, this is the best giveaway! You pick the best books.

  24. nfmgirl Says:

Normally I like a wide variety of genre. But right now I’m just craving FUN! So I find myself being drawn to YA right now– the light and fun kind, not full of teenage angst. Post-apocalyptic is fun. An adventure I can really lose myself in, or some fun-loving humor and raucous chaos!

  25. Mystica Says:

Historical fiction would be my choice. I thought I shouldnt be greedy and thats why I didnt write!!!

    • katrinastonoff Says:

LOL. You are very sweet! But I’m glad you entered. My policy is that ANYONE can win, even the person who just won (though that doesn’t happen very often).

  26. Becca Says:

I like historical fiction but lately I’ve developed a taste for urban fantasy, but nothing that tends too much toward romance. Gritty and slightly dark is better. Thanks!

  27. Durão Says:

I am going to cheat a little bit and just say Graphic Novels!
I just love those Alan Moore works. :)

  28. Anonymous Says:

I’d like something I wouldn’t normally read… Although, considering I have in the last while read historical romance, sf, fantasy, crime, true crime, magic realist, biography (and autobiography), political history, comic novels (as in comedy not as in comic books) and comic books, I’m not entirely certain what that leaves…

    Stephen.

  29. Jonita Says:

I enjoy well-written women’s fiction, such as those books written by Emily Giffin, Wendy Holden, Jill Mansell, and so on, especially if it’s British women’s fiction!

Might have some psychological element to it.

  35. Julie H. Says:

I’ve been on a big mystery kick lately….maybe you can find a new one for me!

  36. ninefly Says:

  50. Tanita Says:

I am going to say Historical Romance as well! :)

  51. Mil Says:

I was reading all the entries to see where my preferences actually were, and I realized that I agree with Durão.
I don’t read graphic novels as much as I would like, but I love the word-image relation and everything that it achieves when it’s good.
I need to try and read more graphic novels!
