Monday Book Giveaway (Nov. 30, 2009)

by

Two winners today, and both get their choice! Congratulations, Thao and Bhumi! Thao chose As You Wish by Jackson Pearce, and Bhumi chose Beautiful Creatures by Kami Garcia and Margaret Stohl. Thao and Bhumi, if you’ll send your shipping information to katrina (at) stonoff (dot) com, I’ll get your books in the mail.

Thanks to everyone for playing. There were some fascinating books on that list that I hadn’t heard about, and I’ve ordered several of them. I love Choose Your Book weeks. :-)

For next week, I’m offering one of the most powerful books I’ve ever read: The Widow’s Season by Laura Brodie. It’s about a 39-year-old woman who sees her husband — dead three months in a kayaking accident — in a grocery store. Thing is, he sees her too, and his body has never been found. So maybe it was him. Or maybe he’s a ghost. Or maybe she’s losing her mind. She isn’t sure, and you won’t be either. Exquisitely crafted, peopled with characters that will endear and infuriate you, this book is compelling through the very last page.

For a chance to win The Widow’s Season, comment below and come back next week to see if you’ve won. Yours will be a new copy — I’m keeping mine to deconstruct, scene by scene, so I can figure out how she did it.  Contest open to anyone on the planet who has access to reliable mail service.

Now, the hat (Fascinator #3):

I didn’t buy this one (and I couldn’t have pulled a winner from it anyway). I think you have to have exactly the right outfit to pull it off — and the chutzpah, and I don’t have either.

However, I had to try it on at least. It was just so fun, and incredibly soft too.

This fascinator is a little more traditional than the first two (though traditionally they were on clips, not headbands).
