Today’s winner is going to be really cheap to ship because she only lives a couple of miles away. Maybe I should take her to lunch with the money I save.
Congratulations, Brook! Brook wins Doomsday Book by Connie Willis and The Long Sleep by Stephen Mellor. Brook, if you’ll send your shipping … oh, right. No need.
For next week: your choice! You can win any* book!!
*Well, any book readily available for $25 or less, not counting shipping, blah blah blah. To enter, comment below with the name of the book you want. Then come back Monday to see if I’ve pulled your name from one of my hats. These are my favorite giveaways because I discover about all sorts of wonderful new books.
Contest open to anyone on the planet with access to reliable mail service, even if they won today (hi, Brook!) or gave birth to me (hi, Mom!). Enter by noonish Sunday.
Now, the hat from which Mad Scientist chose Brook’s name:
This is one of my more ordinary hats, purchased from a department store back in the dark ages when I was in college (oh, all right, the 1980s). It’s made by Aris.
It’s knitted (by machine) of 54 percent acrylic and 46 percent poly vinyl chloride. Yes, dear readers, I am wearing the same material used to make the pipes under your kitchen sink. No wonder it’s white.
This is, however, one of the warmest hats I own. This is the one I reach for when it’s snowing.
Edited to add: to answer Cecilia‘s question, I don’t know how many hats I have. I’ve never counted, and I’ve only had them all out at once one time. Eventually, I won’t have any new hats to photograph, and then we’ll all know. This one is hat #35, and I know for certain there are at least five more.
