Monday* Book Giveaway (November 24, 2008)

By katrinastonoff

Today’s winner is … (insert drum roll here) … Carol!!! Congratulations! Carol, if you’ll send your shipping information to katrina (at) stonoff (dot) com, I’ll getSunshine by Robin McKinley on its way to you.

For next week, I have a copy of M. J. Rose’s The Memorist. The Memorist is the latest in Rose’s paranormal suspense series on reincarnation (the first wasThe Reincarnationist), but it can definitely stand alone. They are fascinating reading!
To win, comment below by noonish Sunday, and come back next Monday to see if I’ve pulled your name from one of my hats (you’ll want to come back next week anyway because it’s time for another “Your Choice, Any Book”). Contest open to anyone on the planet who has access to reliable mail service.
Now, the hat from which my friend Liz drew Carol’s number:
hat291This is a great hat by Anna Rizzo, purchased from Samuel’s Hats. It’s made of black fur felt with a gray satin bow.
I highly recommend Samuel’s Hats, btw. Samuel is the sweetest milliner ever, and he has a selection, bar none. Someday, when I’m a rich and famous author? I’m going to stop in at his shop and buy a hat every single time I go to New York to visit my agent or publisher. In the meantime, thank goodness, he sells online as well. I window shop here at least once a month.

*Yes. The Monday Book Giveaway this week is on Tuesday. Again. *double sigh* But the good news is, I have finished my latest revision of East of Jesus AND gotten 30,000 words on a new novel for Nano.
Edited to add the photo. It took a long time to download from my camera because I was also downloading a hilarious video of my nephew JR singing “YMCA.” I cannot, sadly, post the hilarious video without JR’s permission, so you’ll have to nag him if you want to see it.
Edited again to put back all the line breaks that WordPress mysteriously deleted from this entry. If this looks weird, please let me know (katrina (at) stonoff (dot) com). When gremlins get into the software, who knows what could happen?!

No need to toss my name among the mix this week. Just wanted to mention you look absolutely fabulous in that hat, definitely “the” picture for the jacket of your book someday!! Love it! :D

**Edited by Katrina to add: Oh, my goodness! I never thought of that. Hmmm. You may be right. Be kind of amusing to have a photo credit that read, “Photo by Katrina Stonoff.”**

I love the 40’s look in this picture. I say 40’s because I have a picture of my great grandmother in a hat that is similar. You look nothing like my great grandmother BTW and nothing about this comment should be construed as any disparagement of age or other wise. Just in case anyone gets any ideas that I mean anything but a compliment. Timeless? Maybe I should say that instead. Nice smile too.

**Edited by Katrina to add: Honey, I would NEVER take reference to 1940s clothing as anything but a compliment. I think that was THE most attractive decade ever for women’s clothing. And I’m honored to have a hat like one your ggrandmother wore. And I adore “timeless” as a compliment, even more so the older I get. Thank you.**

I want to read The Memorist! I have an interest in unique, sort of metaphysical stories or those that get into unknown/mysterious territory, so this sounds like my kind of book!

  26. Mom Says:

This isn’t my kind of book, but I also had to comment on that lovely hat. It looks absolutely gorgeous with your “hair” and the clothes you are wearing. Have you lost weight? Sure looks like it!!! Love ya, Mom

**Edited by Katrina to add: As a matter of fact, I have lost weight. Thank you for noticing! :-) But I have to ask, Madame Grammarian, why have you put hair in quotes? Do you not believe my hair is real? Is it a comment about how gray my hair has become? Or perhaps because it’s so short, it no longer deserves the appellation, “hair?” (Just teasing, I hope you realize!)**

  27. Mom Says:

P.S. I also LOVE the scarf you are wearing. Heehee.

**Edited by Katrina to add: Ah, yes. I am incredibly lucky in that I know someone with great knitting skills, a good eye for fun yarn, AND a generous heart. She made me a similar one with gold and blue stripes, and those two scarves are my favorite ever. Not to mention any names, but she gave birth to me mumble-mumble years ago!**

  38. Ron Miller Says:

Reincarnation: Two priests died at the same time and met Saint Peter at the Pearly Gates. St. Peter said, “I’d like to get you guys in now, but our computer is down. You’ll have to go back to Earth for about a week, but you can’t go back as priests. So what else would you like to be?” The first priest says, “I’ve always wanted to be an eagle, soaring above the Rocky Mountains.” “So be it,” says St. Peter, and off flies the first priest. The second priest mulls this over for a moment and asks, “Will any of this week ‘count’, St. Peter ?”
“No, I told you the computer’s down. There’s no way we can keep track of what you’re doing.”
“In that case,” says the second priest, “I’ve always wanted to be a stud.”
“So be it” says St. Peter, and the second priest disappears. A week goes by, the computer is fixed, and the Lord tells St. Peter to recall the two priests. “Will you have any trouble locating them?” He asks. “The first one should be easy,” says St. Peter. “He’s somewhere over the Rockies, flying with the eagles. But the second one could prove to be more difficult.” “Why?” asketh the Lord. “He’s on a snow tire, somewhere in North Dakota.”
