Monday Book Giveaway (May 26, 2008)

By katrinastonoff

This weeks book winners are (ta da dum!) … Ginnie and Shama-Lama Mama! Congratulations! You each win a copy of Michelle Richmond’s A Year of Fog. If you’ll send your shipping information to katrina (at) stonoff (dot) com, I’ll put your book in the mail.

For next week, you can win any book I’ve mentioned. It can be a book I’ve already given away, one I’ve referred to on the blog, something I’ve reviewed here or here, or any book on either of my giveaway shelves. Here’s your chance to get a book you wanted in the past and didn’t win. I’m trying to get new reviews on my website, so hopefully there will be some new choices today or tomorrow.

Just leave a comment, telling me which book you want, before noon Sunday (Pacific Time). I’ll choose a winner from one of my hats. Contest is open to anyone, anywhere, as long as mail service can reach you.

Here’s the hat I chose the winners from today. It’s a vintage cloth hat I purchased on ebay for almost nothing.

The label says “Marche,” but I’m not familiar with the designer. The green fabric is velvet, and the blue and purple fabrics are satin. I like to imagine who wore this hat. Definitely a woman of spirit and fire!

I wonder if the label refers to the Bon Marche? That was (is? I haven’t heard the name in years, but who knows?) a store chain, somewhat classy. Sort of like Macy’s.

Don’t toss me in the hat for next Monday–I rearely read actual good fiction these days, tending to stick to murder mysteries, and it’d be a shame to take a book away from someone who would properly appreciate it, should I happen to win. I wouldn’t even know what to ask for.

  2. katrinastonoff Says:

I wondered that myself. I loved the Bon Marche, but it was bought out by Macy’s and has become another ho-hum department store.

As far as not knowing what to read, have you read Karin Slaughter’s Triptych? Or Tess Gerritsen’s The Bone Garden? Or M. J. Rose’s The Reincarnationist? Those are all murder mysteries I’ve read recently (though none of them are what I’d call typical murder mysteries).

  3. Melessa Says:

Just read The Mermaid Chair, so I think I’ll hope for Where the Heart Is again. Maybe I’ll even be productive enough to remember to link to the contest on my blog. It’s always on my mental to-do list…sadly, that thing gets so long that I accomplish very little on it.

  4. Ginny Says:

I’d love a copy of Freakonomics, read the blog but have never read the book.

  5. Carla Pullum Says:

I was wondering if I could win one of YOUR books? East of Jesus or Old Fabric, New Pattern both sound wonderful!

If not I would also love to read Running with Scissors.

  13. raych Says:

I’m bummed that I didn’t win last week, so if I win THIS week, I’d like ‘A Year of Fog,’ please.

  14. Shama-Lama Mama Says:

YAY! Thank you SO MUCH! A Year of Fog sounds awesome.

Your hat collection is so awesome. I’m kind of jealous. I love hats but with my poofy hair, I look really odd in hats. And my hair looks awful when I take them off because the top ends up all smashed down and the bottom half stays poofy. So I just look at hats and sigh…

I know that we are allowed to enter if we just won but I still want to take a week off. I would personally feel too guilty if I won twice in a row. A week in between? That’s cool, but not two weeks in a row. Hee hee hee!

    Thanks again Katrina!!

  15. trish Says:

Isn’t it fun to imagine what someone might have done with that hat?

I’ll stick with last week’s choice, A Year of Fog. Thanks, Katrina!
