I already told you the funny story, so this is just the pic.
I’m on the right, bestselling author Joshilyn Jackson (my new BFF!) is in the middle, and my chic and svelte friend Rene on the left. As you can see, Rene had the impeccable taste to dress exactly like Joshilyn. Robin (lovely writer I met at the workshop) also came with us, but she declined to be in the picture. Probably because she had failed to dress like Joshilyn. I, however, have no shame and proudly stood up in my Nothing-Like-Joshilyn’s clothing (I do want to point out though that my blouse IS brown. Just sayin’).
You can’t see it, but Joshilyn brought a quilt (picture here). It’s the Bride’s Quilt her character Laurel makes in the novel. It’s stunning! Among other great details, the bride has a pair of button-down shoes that are embroidered with daisies, and one of the daisy petals is a human tooth. One of my favorite details in The Girl Who Stopped Swimming is that tooth — Laurel bought an ugly bureau at an auction just to get the collection of baby teeth in one of the drawers.
Joshilyn commissioned art quilter Pamela Allen to make the quilt, and — coolest of all! — Pamela used one of her own teeth as the daisy petal.
But the weird thing? The tooth didn’t look remotely decayed, so Rene and I wanted to ask whether Pamela Allen removed a healthy tooth just for the sake of her art.
We didn’t dare ask.

One of my BFFs and I always seem to show up at events in the same, or so similar they appear to be the same, outfits. Which is really odd because we honestly don’t have the same taste in clothes, we don’t have the same body type, and we live six hours away from each other so we don’t know each other’s wardrobes and subconsciously select similar things. And my friend Deb and I apparently share the exact same wardrobe of t-shirts. I’m always accusing her of stealing my shirts to wear in her blog photos. We live on opposite ends of the country but must have at least a dozen shirts in common.
And LOL, yes, poor Pamela had to have some dental work. I’m glad the tooth doesn’t look decayed because – ewwww. She must have chosen one of the nicer looking ones. LOL!
