Girly Girl’s First Broken Heart

By katrinastonoff

For two years now, Girly Girl has said, “When I’m a woman, I’m going to grow up and marry Pat S” (not his real name). She always wants to invite him over so she can “cook supper” for him, and he invited her to his birthday party. We always say, “Well, that’s up to you…and Pat S.”

As Mars was tucking her in one night this week, she said, “Pat S. said he’s not my best friend anymore.” Mars made the appropriate consoling noises, and she added, “I’m very sad.”

Yep. Just like her mother. I had my first head-over-heels crush in Second Grade, but H.B. never noticed me from the crowd of girls that surrounded him.

I don’t think all is lost however. Friday, I joined Girly Girl at lunch for a barbecue, and Pat S. spent a good 10 minutes walking around our table with robot arms and legs while Girly Girl giggled.

This sounds super-cute! I don’t think I had my first crush until at least third grade, and it wasn’t until several years later that anyone had a return crush on me (as far as I know). =)

What a cute story. Now, why didn’t she mention this Pat to me while I was visiting with you? Mom
