Help! Need Name, Redux

By katrinastonoff

Yesterday, I asked for help naming my segment on ’s podcast.

suggested “Northwest Ramblings,” which I really like. But I”m a little afraid that people will think the entries specifically deal with the PNW–which they don’t always.

suggested “In the Pink,” and I really like it though I’ll confess I didn’t know the definition gave! But I used to cruise AOL chatrooms with this same screen name, and I got invitations to “dance” frequently. I couldn’t understand why until somebody told me my screen name sounded like a stripper’s.

But see…when I started this journal, I never dreamed it would be public one day, in terms of people actually reading it. It was just a way for me to keep in touch with two friends who were doing Nano with me.

And now that I’m trying to build a presence on the web, hoping to sell books someday, it’s my real name I need to get out there, the name I write under: Katrina Stonoff. Though obviously that doesn’t make for a good segment name!

OK, OK. I’ll admit it. It isn’t the “vaguely dirty” connotation at all, or even that it has nothing to do with my current name. I’ll confess. Here’s the real problem with “In the Pink.”

At the time I joined AOL, “TrinaPink” was as much of my real name as I could fit. But “Pink” is neither my maiden name nor Mars’ surname. “Pink” was short for the last name of my ex-husband, and given the evil-personified who was my father-in-law, I dropped that name with some glee when I married Mars.

So…having shot down all your great ideas…any other ideas? Or other people? ?

I know you said “Anybody Else” but if you don’t mind may I suggest another?
“Nano Second” or “Mars Mad Scientist”

Oh, my heck, yes! I love your input, and I didn’t mean to imply that once you’d submitted one idea, you couldn’t submit 200 more if you want!

And I’ve edited to entry so it no longer implies that. Thanks for pointing it out.

Hmmm….what about “In a Nano Second?” or “Just Wait One Nano Second!” or “Give Me One Nano Second?”

I keep thinking there must be a good pun to be constructed from your last name, based on the words “stone” and “off”. Something like “Pebbles from. . .” But I can’t quite get there. Your mind is more creative than mine; maybe you, or your readers, can do something with it.

      Ooo! That’s a thought.

There’s a saying “Only Pebble on the Beach,” describing egocentrics, but it’s pretty obscure.

Off I do to an idioms dictionary, though, to see what else I can find.

(BTW, who the heck are you? That’s a great idea! Is that you, Mom?)

The more I think about it, the more I like a play on the word “stone.” For one thing, it’ll help people remember that my name is pronounced stone-off.

So courtesy of The Free Dictionary, how about one of these?

    • Set in Stone (or Carved in Stone) or Not Set in Stone
    • Blood from a Stone
    • No Stone Unturned (this one really works with the everything-but-the-kitchen-sink philosophy I have about choosing topics)
    • Sink Like a Stone
    • A Stone’s Throw

    Or!

Stone Soup: in which you throw everything you have into a pot and simmer.

Ah, A Monday morning and at last I have time to reply!

I have, so far, come up with two ideas. Unfortunately, you’ve already come up with my favourite one – no Stone (or Stonoff) Unturned. Bugger.

However, I quite like this one – Katrina Tells You Which Way The Wind Blows. Possibly not in the best taste, but, hey, them’s the breaks.

How about ‘Trina’s Train of Thought’? Nice alliteration, at least.

    Or ‘Stonoff Speaks!’

    Katrina’s Komments. (Oooh. Ick…)

Katrina ‘Kasts. (Again, with the mis-spellings. Have I mentioned how much I hate things like Toys’R'Us and Playskool? Hideous things, especially when aimed at children.)

    Stonoff Goes On (and On…)

    I’ll leave it there…

I’m the person who suggested punning on your last name. You asked who I am–I’d have left my name before, but I couldn’t figure out how your system works.

Anyway, I’m using the moniker Addofio, have a blog at addofio.wordpress.com. I check in your your blog regularly.

I also thought of One Off from Stonoff, but that’d limit you (sort of) to one topic per cast. Or Gems of Stone.
